Thinking School and Outdoor Schoool
Our thinking school approach is used in schools across the UK and has been identified by Estyn and Ofsted as having long term benefits for children’s learning, enabling them to become independent learners and achieve well. There’s more information here.
Pembrokeshire is a beautiful county and we encourage our children to have a love and understanding of the environment through an integrated approach to indoor and outdoor learning. Research into learning in nature has shown that the many benefits include children’s wellbeing, health and physical development, social development and academic achievement. To learn more about the rationale for learning outdoors, the RSPB report, ‘Every Child Outdoors Wales’ draws together some of the wide range of research and is a useful starting point. Read more from the RSPB on the subject here.
We are totally committed to pupils learning through the outdoors and have developed a beautiful outdoor classroom at our site in Llawhaden which, along with five acres of woods and grassland, a nature playground and a sheltered covered area will provide our Prep with the most fabulous outdoor setting in which to learn. Once a week the prep will spend a whole day at the site under the experienced supervision of our Outdoor Schools co ordinator, Gayle Lister (formerly an Education Ranger with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park).
