Upper Prep Curriculum

At KS2, we enjoy a diverse and varied curriculum whilst ensuring the important core areas of numeracy and literacy are not neglected. We have a head of curriculum in the prep who monitors individual progress through all areas of the curriculum and assesses each pupil regularly to keep abreast of progress, individual strengths and weaknesses and any areas of concern. We do not get our pupils to sit the national tests, preferring to do our own, less stressful, discreet assessments to gauge how our children are progressing.

We firmly believe, in order for a child to thrive and be the best they can be, communication between home and school is essential. To this end, we are only a phone call or email away and can be available to meet at a moment’s notice. We have regular parent evenings and issue termly reports to keep you informed of progress.

Most mornings are set aside for core skills and science, leaving the afternoons for more creative work. The humanities are covered via pupil led project work, with sessions in Art, Drama, Music and PE being delivered by subject specialists. A day a week is spent at our Outdoor School.

We are keen for our pupils to see the wider world and often go on trips and visits that are relevant to a particular subject. We also invite interesting people, groups and agencies in to share their specialist knowledge with us.

Increasingly, as children progress through upper prep, we are mindful of their transition to secondary school. Some will stay with us and go on to our senior school but others may be going on to boarding schools or into the local state system. We will work tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition wherever a child is going.

There are many extra-curricular initiatives for upper prep pupils from Performing Arts classes to Sports Leadership club, ICT club, STEM projects, sports and art clubs. Please ask for the current programme of clubs.
